Volunteers are integral to the fabric of cricket in Western Australia. Without the dedication, commitment and passion of the thousands of volunteers who give up their time each year, community cricket would not exist.

To recognise and celebrate the efforts of volunteers, WA Cricket hosts the WA Community Cricket Awards.

How to complete your nomination

Questions will differ for each category. We encourage you to start by reading the nomination criteria, reviewing our tips on writing your nomination, and contacting the two referees you have chosen to include.

Sometimes your personal circumstances may mean you need support to complete a nomination. If this applies to you, please email volunteers@wacricket.com.au or call 08 9265 7316.

Nomination criteria

To be eligible the nominee must volunteer at, or be, a WA Cricket affiliated community cricket club or association in Western Australia.

Nominations are for voluntary work and programs during the current cricket season. Past achievements and ongoing contribution to community cricket will be viewed favourably.

The nominee must be performing the role they undertake in a voluntary capacity, which may include an honorarium, within the nomination period.

All nominees must act in the Spirit of Cricket, do what is best for volunteers and players, be respectful to all in the cricket community, and not bring the game into disrepute.

Nominators must include two referees per nomination and inform each referee. Referees cannot be a relative of the nominee. For individual awards, one referee should be the club or association president or a management committee member if the president is unavailable, is a relative of the nominee, or is the nominee.

Club information not collected as part of the nomination process will also be considered during the evaluation and judging process, including but not limited to:

  • The number of registered players in particular age groups, programs, or by gender for the current and/or previous season;
  • The total number of coaches and their accreditation;
  • If the club has adopted Australian Cricket's Policy for Safeguarding Children and Young People, signed the Commitment Statement, and appointed a Child Safety Officer;
  • If the club is a Good Sports club, and to what level.

You may nominate the same individual/organisation for multiple categories however you must complete a separate nomination for each category.

All finalists are encouraged to attend the Community Cricket Awards presentation on an evening in March.

All nominees will be considered for Volunteer of the Month and Match, irrespective of previous recognition and awards.

To be eligible for the Country Volunteer of the Year, the nominee must reside in a country region recognised by the Country Cricket Board for the current cricket season.

To be nominated for Young Volunteer of the Year, nominees must be aged 21 years or under.

To be eligible for the Junior Community Coach of the Year, nominees must currently hold a Community Cricket coach accreditation.

To be eligible for the Woolworths Cricket Blast Coordinator of the Year, nominees must have attended WA Cricket Cricket Blast Coordinator training in the lead up, or during the current season.

To be eligible for the School Ambassador of the Year, nominees must be a registered Perth Scorchers School Ambassador.

Tips to writing an effective nomination

Be prepared

Before you get started:

  • Review the nomination criteria to ensure your volunteer, club, or teacher are eligible.
  • Read the questions for the category you will be submitting a nomination and consider drafting your nomination in Word first. Please be aware once you enter the nomination form, you will not be able to save a draft. A copy in Word will assist if there is a technical issue.
  • Seek permission from your two referees to include their details in your nomination early, they may want to contribute to your nomination.

Make sure to answer the questions

Consider each question and remember:

  • Aim for quality not quantity, try and keep your sentences short and to the point, and avoid repetition.
  • Give specific and detailed examples.
  • If appropriate, include challenges and impacts of the nominees efforts.
  • Put yourself in the judges shoes. What information would you need to know to evaluate nominations if you had never been involved with or met your volunteer, club or teacher.
  • The judging panel will be independent and may not know your volunteer, club or teacher.

Submit your nomination soon

Nominees for individual awards will be considered for Volunteer of the Month or Perth Scorchers School Ambassador of the Term. The sooner they are nominated, the greater the chance they will be recognised before the Community Cricket Awards presentations.

Remember, the best nominations are concise and clearly outline why your nominee deserves recognition. Good luck, WA Cricket looks forward to receiving your nomination.
