The Karen Read Medal is named after former Australian & WA player, Karen Read. She was the Captain of WA's only winning Australian Championship team and is named a WA Cricket Honorary Life Member. The Karen Read Medal was introduced 11 years ago in recognition of her contribution to WA cricket.
