Western Australia have finalised their 13-player squad for their Women's National Cricket League fixtures against Victoria on Monday 27 and Wednesday 29 January at CitiPower Centre.
WNCL Squad Set for Victoria Clashes
Melville seamer Maddie White is in line to make her WNCL debut, after earning selection in the squad following a productive season for Melville in WA Premier Cricket.
White moved over to Perth from Victoria at the start of the 2024-25 season, where she played for Prahran Cricket Club in the Victorian Premier League. She was also a regular in Victoria’s Pathway programs, having represented her state at both U17 and U19 level.
The 21-year-old has impressed with her wicket-taking ability so far this summer, taking 13 wickets in 16 matches.
Skipper Chloe Piparo is poised to play her 100th WNCL match for WA on Monday, becoming the third WA Woman to achieve the feat following former players Avril Fahey (124) and Angele Gray (105).
The classy right-hander made her debut in October 2012 as an 18-year-old and has been a regular fixture in the WA side ever since.
A top-order batter capable of batting long periods, Piparo’s record for her state is unmatched, with the 30-year-old now the record-holder for most runs for WA in the national competition.
Piparo has compiled 3051 runs at 33.9 over 99 matches, including 23 half-centuries and four centuries with a highest score of 119. A career-best season in 2022-23 (513 runs at 51.3) saw her earn a maiden Zoë Goss Medal, awarded to the best performing player for WA during the season.
Her class and composure at the crease have long been her standout feature, while her ability to read the game has seen her become one of the best leaders in the competition.
Touted as a captain in waiting from her junior days, Piparo took over leadership duties from Bolton ahead of the 2018-19 WNCL season and now stands as WA’s longest-serving skipper.
Meanwhile, experienced bowler Taneale Peschel will miss the trip to Victoria due to a minor quad complaint, but is a chance to be available for matches against ACT in a fortnight.
WA will be hoping to continue on their winning momentum, after their convincing bonus-point victory over New South Wales at the WACA last time out.
WA currently sit seventh on the competition ladder at the halfway mark of the campaign, with one win from six matches.
The matches will be broadcast on Kayo and Cricket.com.au with the first ball scheduled for 7:00AM WST.
