One change for WA in Adelaide Oval encounter

Western Australia is batting first in their first away game of the 2026-27 Sheffield Shield season, reaching 1-81 at lunch on the opening day.

Veteran allrounder Ashton Agarhas been picked to play his first Sheffield Shield match in more than a year, named as the sole inclusion to the side that played out a tense draw against New South Wales at the WACA Ground last week.

Agar was a strong contributor with both bat and ball in the side’s 78-run One-Day Cup loss to New South Wales last week, as well as taking a brilliant one-handed catch to dismiss Ben Dwarshius.

After being subbed out of last week’s Shield encounter with a shoulder injury, Captain Aaron Hardie is out of the clash with South Australia with a mandatory 12-day stand-down period from all domestic and national competitions.

Hardie’s absence paves the way for Hilton Cartwright to lead WA’s Sheffield Shield side once again, having previously stepped into the role in 2019.

Fast bowler Joel Paris also comes out of the squad with a hamstring injury sustained while fielding on day three of last week’s Shield match.

Having replaced Hardie prior to day three of last week’s match, Corey Wasley is in the mix to play his first full Sheffield Shield match.

WA is on top of the Sheffield Shield ladder, holding a narrow advantage over second-placed Tasmania.

WA squad for the Sheffield Shield clash against South Australia: Hilton Cartwright ©️, Ashton Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Brody Couch, Joel Curtis, Kieran Elliott, Albert Esterhuysen, Jayden Goodwin, Liam Haskett, Jhye Richardson, Corey Rocchiccioli, Corey Wasley, Sam Whiteman
