After a roller coaster 2025-26 WNCL campaign, Western Australia enters a new season with renewed hope and enthusiasm.
WNCL 2026-27 Preview
Despite stumbling in the early stages of last season’s campaign, WA bounced back to win seven consecutive matches and put themselves firmly in the frame to make the Final.
A desperate bid to reach the season’s showpiece fell agonisingly short in the last game of the season against ACT, meaning the side had to settle for third position on the table.
After watching Queensland stun New South Wales in last season's decider, Becky Grundy’s team will have their sights firmly on being a part of this season’s Final.
Captain Chloe Piparo is set to have a big bearing on the team’s fortunes again this season, following a stellar 2025-26 campaign that saw her notch 593 runs at 49.41.
Piparo was well supported at the top of the order by dashing wicketkeeper-batter Maddy Darke last season, who finished with 429 runs of her own at 42.90.
It was a triumphant return to WA for Heather Graham last season, who finished with 289 runs at 36.12 and took 15 wickets at 27.40 in her Zoë Goss Medal-winning campaign.
The allrounder has match-winning ability and will be out to pick up where she left off last season.
Australian wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney is also set to feature early in WA’s campaign and will be critical to the side’s fortunes when available.
The addition of Queensland’s Ruby Strange to the 20-player squad bolsters WA’s pace cartel.
Strange, who featured last season for the Perth Scorchers in the Weber WBBL, joins the likes of Ebony Hoskin, Chloe Ainsworth and Taneale Peschel in the side’s fast-bowling ranks.
While the side is well resourced for pace bowlers, there’s no shortage of spin options either.
Amy Edgar took 17 wickets at a stunning 15.52 from just six outings last year and looks set to cause opposition sides headaches.
Having been limited to two appearances last season, Australian spinner Alana King could also be an important inclusion to the side in the early part of this season’s campaign.
WA will play just the one game before the Weber WBBL break, before being back in action on December 14 and December 16 against South Australia at Karen Rolton Oval.
