A new chapter of cricket in Western Australia was opened during the launch of the 2026-27 season at a breakfast event at the WACA Ground this morning.
WA Cricket launches a new season in style
Following a 2025-26 season that was decorated with memorable moments from the NRMA Insurance Ashes West Test Series opener to Weber WBBL and KFC BBL Finals appearances and the historic Women’s Test Match at the WACA Ground, the 2026-27 season was launched with renewed enthusiasm.
WA Cricket CEO John Stephenson and The Honourable Rita Saffioti - Deputy Premier; Treasurer; Minister for Sport and Recreation addressed the more than 100 invited guests in attendance at the event ahead of what promises to be another action-packed summer.
Guests were also given exclusive insight into one of cricket’s great rivalries, as Adam Gilchrist, Zoe Goss and Adam Voges gave their recollections of playing against New Zealand.
The season was launched in the Wally Edwards Function Centre, as part of the newly redeveloped WACA Ground which has into a world-class community, entertainment and sporting venue supporting elite and community cricket, and providing year-round facilities for Members and the broader community.
Following the launch, guests and members of the general public were invited to view the unveiling of statues of WA Cricket greats Goss, Dennis Lillee and Joseph Nogolot.
With thanks to a $5.85 million Lotterywest grant, the works form part of the broader public art and site interpretation program incorporated throughout the transformed precinct.
WA Cricket Members and fans are set to be treated to a plethora of cricket over the next six months, headlined by the NRMA Insurance West Test at Perth Stadium between traditional rivals Australia and New Zealand.
A newly redeveloped WACA Ground is also set to play host to a stellar set of fixtures, starting with a One-Day Cup clash between WA and Tasmania on Friday 18 September.
Under the guidance of new Head Coach Beau Casson, the WA men’s team will be looking to start a new era in fine style by winning silverware for the first time since 2023-24.
While the WA women’s team will be out to capitalise on a strong finish to season 2025-26, where they won seven of their final eight WNCL games to narrowly miss out on a spot in the Final.
Off field, the WA Cricket Foundation is making a difference in the lives of Aboriginal cricketers, young women, and people with a disability through our sport. The Foundation continues to flourish, building upon a strong base that is testament to the determination and commitment of its generous donors, community partners and staff.
