Western Australian trio Cooper Connolly, Cameron Green and Josh Inglis have been included in Australia’s 16-player squad for next month’s blockbuster Test Series against South Africa.
Connolly Among Three WA Stars In Australian Squad
Connolly has been included in an Australian Test squad for the first time since 2025, when he made his debut against Sri Lanka at Galle.
The 23-year-old was a standout performer during Australia’s white ball tour to Bangladesh, including scoring his first century in the final match of the 50-over component of the tour.
Connolly featured in four Sheffield Shield matches for WA last season scoring 216 runs at 30.85, including two half-centuries against South Australia.
Green was a standout performer for Australia in last month's Test series against Bangladesh, finishing as the leading run scorer with 184 runs at 61.33 across the two matches.
The allrounder was the shining light for Australia in the opening match of the series, scoring a stunning 104 to help his side avoid an innings defeat.
He backed that up with 67 in his sole innings in the second Test, the only player to pass 50 in the match.
It followed a consistent run of form in 50-over cricket for Australia, making two half-centuries across six matches against Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Inglis retains his place in the squad, despite not playing in either of the two Tests against Bangladesh.
The 31-year-old featured in two of the five matches against England during last summer’s NRMA Insurance Ashes Series.
The three-match series gets underway on Friday 9 October at Durban, before the second and third matches at Gqeberha and Cape Town respectively.
It also marks the first time Australia and South Africa meet in a Test Match since last year’s ICC World Test Championship Final at Lords.
South Africa won that match by five wickets, denying Australia back-to-back wins in the tournament after they beat India in the 2023 edition.
The two teams occupy the top two spots in the race to reach the 2027 ICC World Test Championship Final.
