New Shine for WACA Ground Icon

The images captured on site highlight the first stage of an important restoration project, aimed at preserving and revitalising the historic structure while respecting the character and heritage that have made it a cherished feature of the WACA Ground for generations. 

Standing over the WACA Ground for more than 70 years, the manual scoreboard remains one of only a handful of its kind still operating in Australia. Rich in history and tradition, it has long been part of the fabric of cricket in Western Australia, overlooking countless domestic and international matches while serving as a monument to those who served in the World Wars.  

The current works focus on restoring and protecting key elements of the scoreboard to ensure it remains both functional and visually striking for years to come. The project includes extensive refurbishment of the front façade, repairs to areas affected by age and weather, upgrades to lighting, and improvements to structural components that will help safeguard the landmark's future. 

Attention is also being given to the scoreboard's famous clock, with upgrades designed to improve its reliability and accuracy while preserving one of the ground's most familiar sights. Phase Two of the project is expected to begin next off-season. 

The restoration reflects a broader commitment to maintaining one of the WACA Ground's most treasured features. Since being erected in the 1950s following the loss of the previous scoreboard, the structure has become synonymous with cricket in Western Australia and remains one of only a small number of surviving manual scoreboards in Australia. 

For generations of players, members and visitors, the scoreboard has been far more than a place to display runs and wickets. It has helped tell the story of cricket at the WACA Ground, recording achievements, milestones and memorable moments while providing a tangible link to the game's rich history. 

As work continues, the restoration project represents an important investment in preserving one of the state's most recognisable sporting landmarks, ensuring the scoreboard remains a proud and enduring feature of the WACA Ground for generations to come.
