WA Cricket wishes to congratulate champion West Australian batter Mitch Marsh, who was crowned the 2026 One-Day International Player of the Year this evening at the Cricket Australia Men’s Awards night.
Marsh named men's ODI Player of the Year
The award recognises another strong year in the 50-over format from the 34-year-old, who captained Australia in all six matches he featured in.
The dashing opening batter scored 304 runs at 60.8 in the format and helped Australia to a 2-1 home series victory over 2025 ICC Champions Trophy winners India.
Marsh was also instrumental in Australia’s biggest ODI win over South Africa in Mackay last year.
The right-hander notched his first century as Australian captain in the encounter, where he also featured in a stunning opening partnership of 250 with Travis Head.
The 276-run win also saw Marsh’s WA teammates Cameron Green and Cooper Connolly star with the bat and ball respectively.
His next outing in the format was a Player of the Match performance in Australia’s win over India at Perth Stadium for his unbeaten 46.
Australia felt Marsh’s absence at the top of the order in keenly fought 2-1 series losses to Pakistan and Bangladesh earlier this year.
Marsh also featured in two One-Day Cup games for Western Australia in season 2025-26, including a convincing win over Victoria in Melbourne.
It’s the second time Marsh has taken out the award, with his previous recognition coming in his Allan Border Medal winning year in 2024.
Adam Gilchrist (2003, 2004) and Mike Hussey (2006) are the only other players from WA to have won the One-Day International Player of the Year award.
Marsh looks set to be at the forefront of Australia’s home ODI Series against England later this year, which kicks off at Perth Stadium on Friday 13 November at 11:30am WST.
The event was held in Brisbane as the Australian team prepares to head to Darwin for the first NRMA Insurance Test Match against Bangladesh starting Thursday 13 August.
WA Men's Head Coach Beau Casson said Marsh would continue to play an important role in the 50-over format ahead of next year's World Cup.
“It’s really pleasing to see Mitch rewarded for another fine year in the 50-over format.
“He’s established himself as one of the most destructive top-order batters in the game over a long period of time and has also developed into an outstanding leader in the Australian side.
“I’m expecting he will be an important part of Australia’s ICC Men’s World Cup campaign next year, as he was in 2023.”
