As the 2026-27 cricket season approaches, the WACA Ground’s state-of-the-art Indoor Centre is giving cricketers of all skillsets the opportunity to take their pre-season training to a new level.
Indoor centre a game changer: Haskett
A dynamic space featuring 10 indoor lanes for training, six of which are available to be booked, the Indoor Centre was opened earlier this year as part of the new WACA Ground precinct.
With a 30-metre run up available for each net, fast bowlers in particular have an opportunity to replicate conditions they will face on match day.
Over the winter period it also provides players the ability to continue training, regardless of conditions.
WA fast bowler Liam Haskett said the whole squad had benefited from being able to train in the new Indoor Performance Centre.
“As a bowler it’s as good as you get preparation wise over winter for playing cricket in summer,” he said.
“With 10 nets in the centre, there’s always availability.
“There’s less pressure to rush working on our craft in training sessions, as with previous locations we’ve trained at over winter where we’ve had less time for bookings.”
Another benefit for clubs looking to book lanes in the Indoor Performance Centre is the chance to train alongside both the WA Men’s and Women’s teams.
Haskett said it was a chance for the next generation of cricket players to be inspired by their idols.
“Unique opportunities exist for younger players to train while they have state and Australian players in nets alongside them,” he said.
“It allows them to learn from seeing how the world’s best players train.
“Hopefully it can provide them with a source of inspiration to get better at their own craft.”
