Thomas Takes Out Olly Cooley Medal

Mount Lawley’s Adam Thomas has joined an illustrious group of WA Premier cricketers, being declared the winner of the Olly Cooley Medal at the WACA Ground on Friday.

The medal count recognises the best players in the WA Premier Cricket's First Grade competition as voted by the umpires on a 3-2-1- basis following each regular season fixture.

Thomas notched 21 votes, five clear of teammate and runner-up Clint Hinchliffe.

The top-order batter, who has also represented England at Under 19 level, scored 909 runs at 69.92 as the leading run scorer in the First-Grade competition.

At just 19, Thomas hit three centuries and six half-centuries in First-Grade across the 2025-26 season, as well as a further two half-centuries in both the T20 and Colts competitions.

Thomas’ impact wasn’t just limited to the bat throughout the season, taking six First-Grade wickets.

Unsurprisingly, Thomas was also recognised in the WA Premier Cricket Team of the Season.

Thomas was joined in the team by several notable names including Hinchliffe, 2023-24 Olly Cooley Medallist Jonathon Wells (Perth) and University’s First-Grade Captain Will Bosisto.

The Allan Edwards Award, which recognises the state’s most promising up and coming cricketer who consistently observes the Spirit of Cricket, was awarded to Will Malajczuk, who was recently awarded a WA contract for season 2026-27.

After claiming a second consecutive First-Grade title in the final against Subiaco-Floreat at the WACA Ground last month, University were again awarded the Club Championship.

University Head Coach Will Stibbs was also recognised as the Male Senior Coach of the Year for a second straight season.
