The Governor’s XI has ended the Lord’s Taverners XI three-match winning streak in the 2026 edition of the President’s Trophy at the WACA Ground earlier this month.
WACA Ground Plays Host To President's Trophy
The annual T20 fixture has cemented its status as one of the important dates on the cricket calendar, with players selected from a cross-section of key WA Cricket stakeholders, WA Cricket Foundation programs and the wider cricketing community.
The match also served as an opportunity to thank some of the sport’s hard-working volunteers and their contribution to cricket.
Along with the WA Cricket Foundation, the fixture is supported by Lord’s Taverners XI, a charitable organisation assisting members of the community who struggle to access resources to play sport and related endeavours.
WA Men’s fast bowler Liam Haskett led the Lord’s Taverners XI, while Bhavi Devchand, who played 12 WNCL matches for the WA Women’s team this season, led the Governor’s XI.
The pair were joined by fellow 2025-26 WA contracted players Ines McKeon and Keaton Critchell, who played for Lord’s Taverners XI and Governor’s XI respectively.
The Governor’s XI were fortunate to be coached by WA Aboriginal Women’s team Head Coach Alex Stewart, while Senior Integrated Cricket League Coach Dave Wright oversaw the Lord’s Taverners XI.
In a nice touch, Coach Wright had the chance to play alongside his son Cam, a memory they will cherish for a long time.
The match also featured 14-year-old Milani McColl, who went on to play for the WA Aboriginal Women’s team in the National Indigenous Cricket Championship in Mackay.
Meanwhile, it was WACA Board Member Dr Michael Gannon’s first time playing on the hallowed turf.
Teams were presented with their playing caps by The Honourable Chris Dawson Governor of WA and Lord’s Taverners Chair Murray McGill in front of friends and family.
The match was played in tremendous spirit and came down to the closing overs, with the Governor’s XI coming out on top.
Through the WA Cricket Foundation, WA Cricket provides pathways and programs for Aboriginal cricketers, people with a disability and young women in cricket from grassroots through to state and national representation.
