Subiaco-Floreat will be out to confirm their status as the dominant force in Women’s Premier Cricket in this weekend’s One-Day Grand Final against Midland-Guildford at Floreat Park.
Subiaco-Floreat Chasing Another Premier Double
Having won the T20 and One-Day titles last season, Subiaco-Floreat successfully defended their T20 crown at the WACA Ground in December.
A comprehensive win over South Perth last week ensured their One-Day title defence would go to the final day also.
Their task won’t be easy though, with Midland-Guildford’s team also packing plenty of firepower.
Centuries at better than a run a ball to top order batters Mikayla Hinkley and Niamh Walsh propelled Subiaco-Floreat to 356 from their 50 overs in last week’s semi-final.
South Perth was always under pressure in the run chase and could only manage 156.
Midland-Guildford’s clinical run chase against Perth was enough to secure them a spot in a second consecutive One-Day final.
Set 269 to win, Midland-Guildford were aided by an Ines McKeon century, which ensured the task never got out of hand.
WA skipper Chloe Piparo also played a supporting role in the chase, scoring a rapid fire 55.
Fellow WA player Lily Mills also played her part in the win, scoring 29 and taking 0-43 off her 10 overs.
Mills has been at her economical best when turning out for Midland-Guildford this season, including 10-over spells of 2-16 and 3-26 against Wanneroo and Perth respectively.
As well as some of the WA contracted players who starred in the semi-finals, the final will also feature star trio Maddy Darke, Heather Graham and Charis Bekker, who will play for Subiaco-Floreat.
Midland-Guildford will also be able to call upon leg-spinner Shay Manolini, who has taken eight wickets in seven outings this season.
To win Sunday’s final, Midland-Guildford will have to defy recent history, with Subiaco-Floreat winning all three encounters between the two sides this season.
Their most recent clash was in the penultimate round of the home-and-away season, where unbeaten half-centuries from Darke and Graham helped Subiaco-Floreat chase down a small total inside 23 overs.
Subiaco-Floreat also won the One-Day clash early in the New Year and the two T20 clashes prior to Christmas.
The final gets underway at 9:30AM on Sunday 29 March.
