Australian Under 19 opening batter Will Malajczuk and exciting quick Jordan Quiggin are in the mix to make their One-Day Cup debuts against Tasmania at the WACA Ground tomorrow.
WA Turn To Youngsters For Tasmania Clash
Malajczuk, who blasted the fastest century in ICC Men’s Under 19 World Cup history against Japan last month, joins the squad for the second time this season, having been a part of the squad for games against Queensland and South Australia last September.
Malajczuk and Quiggin’s inclusions are among seven changes to Western Australia’s squad for their penultimate One-Day Cup game of the season against the top-of-the-table Tigers, as they look to keep their hopes of making the final alive.
Allrounder Aaron Hardie is also in line to return to the 50-over side, following a stellar KFC BBL campaign with Perth Scorchers that saw him named in the official Team of the Tournament.
Top-order batters Sam Fanning and Cameron Bancroft also return to the squad, as does paceman Bryce Jackson and off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli.
Australian T20 World Cup squad members Mitchell Marsh and Cooper Connolly will miss the match, while Ashton Agar (calf) and Joel Paris (adductor) are continuing their rehabilitation of injuries sustained during the BBL.
Mahli Beardman (back), Hilton Cartwright (hamstring) and Keaton Critchell (hamstring) will also be unavailable for the match.
WA must beat Tasmania tomorrow and Victoria on February 21 if they are any chance to reach the One-Day Cup final, to be played on February 28.
The side sits fifth on the One-Day Cup ladder on 8.5 points, just 4.5 points behind second-placed Queensland, who have played one more game than WA.
