Byfield Brilliance Headlines Memorable CSBP Junior Country Week

An extraordinary all-round performance from Northam’s Parker Byfield has headlined a highly successful 2025–26 CSBP Junior Country Week, as regional Western Australia’s best young cricketers showcased their talent across Perth.

Byfield produced one of the most dominant individual tournaments in Junior Country Week history, amassing 401 runs at an average of 200.5, including three centuries and a half-century, all unbeaten.

Leading from the front as captain of the Northam Junior Cricket Association side, the right-hander was equally influential with the ball, claiming six wickets at an average of 11.16 to cap a remarkable week.

Across five divisions — 14A, 14B, 14C, 16A and 16B — 44 teams from every corner of regional WA competed in a multi-format tournament that concluded with finals on Friday 9 January.

In the 14A division, Albany claimed the title with a commanding nine-wicket victory over Peel Country in the final.

The 14B competition saw Upper Great Southern edge West Pilbara by two wickets in the Pool A Final, while Northam delivered a dominant performance to defeat Esperance by 102 runs in the Pool B Final.

Upper Great Southern were again on top in 14C, cruising to a 10-wicket win over Wellington Blue.

The older age groups showcased more exceptional cricket, with Busselton Margaret River lifting the 16A crown following a five-wicket victory over Albany.

In 16B, West Pilbara secured the Pool A Final with a 32-run win over Great Southern, while Busselton Margaret River completed a close two-wicket triumph over Northam in the Pool B Final.

CSBP Junior Country Week once again highlighted the depth of talent and passion for cricket across regional Western Australia, with players travelling thousands of kilometres to represent their communities and test themselves against the state’s best.

The tournament continues to play a vital role in the development of young cricketers, providing high-quality competition, fostering teamwork and creating lasting memories both on and off the field.

With another successful Junior Country Week complete, the focus now shifts to the CSBP Men’s Country Week (18–23 January) and CSBP Women’s Country Week (24–26 January), as the summer of country cricket continues.
