Cricket Participation Tracking Towards Record Heights in WA

Cricket participation continues to soar in Western Australia, with more than 16,186 boys and girls registered to play junior cricket and Woolworths Cricket Blast across the state.

This record figure marks the first time participation has surpassed 16,000 at this stage of the season and is currently a five percent increase on the corresponding time last year.

In the metro area, this growth is driven by a significant jump in junior team numbers, with nearly 900 teams registered to play, 40 more than 2024-25.

Participation in regional WA has also seen a significant upswing, increasing 10 percent across junior cricket and Cricket Blast compared to the same time last year

Junior cricket numbers in regional WA remain strong, rising four per cent year-on-year to 2,046 participants. The North West has led the growth, with combined participation in Cricket Blast and Junior Cricket up by 120 players — from 248 last season to 368 this year.

WA Cricket General Manager – Community Cricket Jo Davies said the growth reflected the passion and hard work of community volunteers, clubs and associations across the State working in collaboration with WA Cricket.

“It’s fantastic to see so many kids excited to pull on their club colours again this season,” Davies said.

“The jump in participation shows that cricket continues to be a sport where young people can connect, belong and have fun, no matter where they live.

“We’re particularly encouraged by the growth in regional areas, where clubs and volunteers put in an enormous effort to make cricket possible week after week in their community. That increase is a real credit to their commitment and the sense of community cricket builds.

“With the season about to get underway, we can’t wait to see packed ovals across WA and thousands of young players enjoying the game with their friends and families.”
