Australian stars Mitch Marsh, Cooper Connolly and Aaron Hardie are in line to play WA's first One-Day Cup home game of the season, against New South Wales at the WACA Ground on Thursday 9 October.
Marsh, Connolly, Peschel Headline 50-over Squads
Meantime, experienced quick Taneale Peschel headlines WA’s Women’s National Cricket League squad for contests against New South Wales Breakers at Cricket Central tomorrow and Saturday 11 October.
Fresh from hitting an unbeaten century in the final T20 International of the Chappell-Hadlee series against New Zealand, Marsh is set to play his first 50-over match for WA since the One-Day Cup final in March 2023.
The Australian T20 captain will be joined in the squad by Connolly, who recently returned from Australia A’s tour of India, where he hit two half-centuries in the 50-over component of the series.
The match is set to be a key part of Marsh and Connolly’s preparations for the upcoming BKT One-Day International series against India, which kicks off at Perth Stadium on Sunday 19 October.
As well as Marsh and Connolly, Aaron Hardie is in line represent his state for the first time this season, having been sidelined with a shoulder injury sustained last month.
Young quick Mahli Beardman also returns to the squad for what could also be his first appearance for WA in 2025-26, having impressed for Perth Scorchers at the back end of the KFC BBL|14 season.
Hilton Cartwright (illness), Matt Kelly (managed) and Will Malajczuk (omitted) will miss the contest, likewise experienced duo Joel Paris (hamstring) and Ashton Turner (calf) with the extent of their injuries to be determined in due course.
Dynamic swing bowler Peschel is part of WA’s 13-player travelling squad to Sydney and will make her first appearance of the WNCL season if selected against the Breakers.
Peschel is one of two changes to the group which went down to Queensland in their opening games at the WACA Ground, alongside spin-bowling allrounder Rebecca McGrath.
Heather Graham (Australia squad) and Maddie White (omitted) make way for the pair, with Graham, Alana King and Beth Mooney all part of Australia's squad for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 in India.
Both WNCL matches get underway at 7.00am AWST, and can be watched via Foxtel, Kayo and Cricket.com.au, while WA’s ODC contest is slated to start at 2pm, local time.
