This past winter has been nothing short of extraordinary for junior cricket in Western Australia.
Winter Cricket Passion Ignited
What began as a modest initiative with 19 teams last year has exploded into a thriving competition with 49 teams taking part in 2025, a remarkable 150% increase which speaks volumes about the growing appetite for cricket all year round.
From Year 5 to Year 11, kids across the state embraced the opportunity to play the sport they love beyond the traditional summer season.
The competition was structured into four dynamic stages, ensuring that players of all skill levels had a chance to participate, develop, and enjoy the game in a fun and inclusive environment.
One of the key highlights this year was the expansion of grounds, thanks to strengthened relationships with local councils.
WA Cricket successfully secured more playing fields than last year, with matches hosted both north and south of the river, making the competition more accessible to families across the Perth metro area.
This growth is more than just numbers, it’s about community, opportunity, and passion.
More kids are staying active, building friendships, and honing their cricketing skills during the off-season.
It’s also a testament to the dedication of volunteers, clubs, and parents who make winter cricket possible.
As we look ahead, the momentum is strong. With continued support from councils and the community, Junior Winter Cricket is fast becoming a staple of the WA sporting calendar, not just a backup for summer, but a season in its own right.
Congratulations to this year's Winter Cricket grand final winners:
