Belt Up Country Cup Adopts New High-energy Format

The 2025 Belt Up Country Cup will debut an exciting new format in October, transforming from a multi-week competition into a single-weekend T20 showcase hosted in Geraldton.

For the first time, the men’s competition will include a Country Colts team, offering a valuable development pathway for emerging regional talent. They will compete alongside representative sides from the Geraldton, Busselton–Margaret River, Bunbury District, Wheatbelt (Combined) and West Pilbara cricket associations.

In a major boost for the women’s game, the tournament will also feature two hybrid women’s teams, selected through a nomination process. This approach will broaden regional representation and increase participation opportunities for players from across Western Australia.

WA Cricket Country Pathway Specialist, Simon Bussey, said the new format would create a festival-like atmosphere while providing a stage for country cricket’s best talent.

“By condensing the tournament into one action-packed weekend, we’re bringing all the energy, rivalry and camaraderie into a single location — it’s going to be a celebration of country cricket,” Bussey said.

“The introduction of the Country Colts team and hybrid women’s sides shows our commitment to creating genuine opportunities for players at all stages of their cricket journey.”

The revamped event aims to deliver a high-energy, inclusive and competitive weekend, showcasing the skill and spirit of regional cricket and strengthening connections across WA’s country cricket community.
