Metropolitan Junior Community Cricket Inc. (MJCC) recently held its first Annual General Meeting and Board elections after a successful inaugural year in which the newly formed governing body was crowned the National Cricket Association of the Year for 2024/25.
MJCC Board Election Champions Diversity
The election process for new board members reflected this recognition, with 14 nominations for six elected volunteer positions coming from the local community, in an unprecedented show of interest.
In line with the MJCC’s values of Inclusive Environments, Integrity and Team Work, Board nominees were required to complete Sport Governance training modules from the Australian Sports commission prior to nominating, reaffirming the Board’s commitment to professionalism and strong strategic governance.
As part of continuing best practice, the elections were supported by a Nominations Committee as well as taking on guidance from the MJCC Diversity Equity and Inclusion Working Group to ensure the process attracted a wide range of candidates.
MJCC Chair Margie Oldfield said this outcome is vital to ensuring the ongoing strategic leadership of junior cricket in Perth and Peel.
“In order to be an effective board, we need to ensure our board members reflect the community we are representing.
“It’s been really terrific to see the strong interest in board positions during this process, as well as the great representation we have from women and multicultural candidates putting themselves forward for election.
“This diversity in our governance leaders will ensure all aspects of our game have a voice around the board table.
“We also encourage candidates who weren’t elected to become involved in the many sub-committee and working group opportunities that support our local cricket community.”
Elected board members will meet ahead of the next scheduled board meeting to formally add two appointed members which will complete the nine-member board for the 2025-26 season.
