Our state-based players have taken their talents abroad over the past couple of months, as they prepare for another domestic summer in 2025-26.
Western Australians Abroad
Star opener Cameron Bancroft has returned to County side Gloucestershire for a second consecutive English County Championship season and has made an immediate impact after being named captain.
In the first match against Glamorgan, Bancroft struck a typically-patient 163 to lead his side to a mammoth first innings score of 546, with the 31-year-old producing the highest individual score in the high-scoring fixture. To date, Bancroft has compiled 281 runs at 35.12 from eight innings.
He is set to be available for the entire red-ball component of the English summer, as he prepares for another domestic campaign for Western Australia in 2025-26.
Allrounder Cameron Green has joined Bancroft at Gloucestershire in the early stages of the English summer, playing the first four matches of the County season as he prepares for the ICC World Test Championship Final against South Africa next month.
Green, who has been sidelined since September due to injury, has impressed on his return to competitive action, striking two centuries and a half century in seven innings.
Green and Bancroft aren’t the only West Australians plying their trade in the United Kingdom during the off-season, with white-ball stars D’Arcy Short and Ashton Turner poised to represent Gloucestershire and Lancashire respectively in the Vitality T20 Blast starting on 30 May.
WA legspinner Alana King will also play for Lancashire this summer, after signing on for the second half of the Blast competition. King will use her stint with Lancashire as ideal preparation for the Hundred, where she will return to Trent Rockets for a fourth straight season.
King will be joined at Trent Rockets by state teammate Heather Graham, while superstar opener Beth Mooney will represent Manchester Originals.
Meanwhile, Mitch Marsh is making a statement for his new franchise the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League.
The powerful allrounder has produced a career-best season at the top of the order, blasting 627 runs at 48.23, at an impressive strike rate of 163.70
Marsh has shown remarkable consistency so far this season, passing fifty on seven occasions in 13 innings. He produced a Player of the Match performance against ladder leaders Gujurat Titans on Thursday 22 May, smashing his first IPL century and highest T20 score (117 off 64) in a knock that included 10 fours and eight sixes.
Wicketkeeper Batter Josh Inglis has received his first taste of IPL action this season, representing Punjab Kings in seven matches.
Inglis season highlight came in the King’s most recent match against Mumbai Indians, blasting his first IPL fifty (72 off 43 balls) in a Player of the Match performance which saw his side finish the regular season in first place.
Holding down a spot in the Kings middle order, Inglis has showcased his strong ability against spin bowling, while his glovework behind the stumps has been a standout.
The Kings has a distinct WA flavour, with state teammate Aaron Hardie (yet to debut) also contracted to the Mohali-based franchise.
Inglis joins Green as the two West Australians named in the 15-player squad for the Test Championship Final, as the Aussies look to secure back-to-back trophies after winning the inaugural decider against India in 2023.
