Top T20I Honours For Behrendorff

WA veteran Jason Behrendorff has been recognised as Australia’s T20 International Player of the Year, reinforcing has standing among the nation’s premier short form bowlers

Crowned during the 2024 Australian Cricket Awards in Melbourne tonight, Behrendorff received the accolade for his outstanding efforts against India.

The languid left-armer led an inexperienced attack with passion and poise, defying challenging Indian conditions to top the Australian wicket-takers list with six scalps from four games.

Once pigeonholed as a specialist new ball bowler, Behrendorff thrived with the extra responsibility of shouldering roles in the middle and death overs.

He leaked fewer runs per over (6.68) than any Australian in a high-scoring series that saw 17 of 19 bowlers concede more than 8.20 runs per over.

His class was laid bare in Guwahati, where he took 1-12 from four overs despite India posting 3-222.

Behrendorff was also damaging against South Africa in Durban, collecting 2-25 in his first T20 match for Australia since 2021.

The 33-year-old finished 2023 with eight wickets at 16.50, emphasising his case to be part of Australia's ICC Men's T20 World Cup campaign in June.
