WACA Responds To City of Perth Aquatic Facility Decision
Western Australian Cricket Association CEO Christina Matthews has released the following statement after the City of Perth last night agreed not to proceed with the construction of the aquatic facility as an addition to the WACA Ground Improvement Project plans.
The WACA believes the inclusion of an aquatic facility as part of the WACA Ground Improvement Project would be a fantastic addition to the iconic venue and a much-needed community amenity that would provide a great opportunity for the local community and will bring additional vibrancy to the East Perth precinct.
As stated previously the WACA disagrees with a number of points in both the paper to the City of Perth Council and the Business Plan, however that continues to be a matter for the Federal and State Governments and the City of Perth given the aquatic facility was a component of the Perth City Deal.
The WACA continues to support the need for an aquatic facility in the City of Perth and this has the potential to provide the residents and workers within the city with facilities not available at any other aquatic centre close to our capital city.
The WACA looks forward to continuing to work with the State and Federal Governments on the WACA Ground Improvement Project which will provide much needed community facilities to life in the East Perth Precinct, as well as meeting the needs of our cricketers.
