The new terminology, effective immediately, has been brought in to reinforce cricket’s status as an inclusive game for all.

This news comes after WA Cricket CEO Christina Matthews called for terms like batsman to be replaced with gender-neutral terms in 2017 in an effort to encourage more women and girls to play the game.

WA Cricket CEO Christina Matthews said;

“We welcome the MCC’s step to make our great game more inclusive. Words matter and they demonstrate respect as well.

“This language change demonstrates cricket’s commitment to becoming a sport for women and girls as we continue to journey towards being a truly gender-equal sport.”
