Steve has devoted the last 15 years to growing and celebrating regional cricket in WA.

Born in Country WA with experience playing in Junior Country Week and Senior Country Week competitions, Steve has a lifelong passion for country cricket.

He started at WA Cricket as a Cricket Community Officer in July 2007 and has since held the posts of Cricket Operations Manager, Country Cricket Manager and Area Manager – Country Cricket.

During this time, his impact has been profound.

Steve was pivotal to ensuring full-time Regional Cricket Managers were employed and proved a valuable mentor to the people hired in those positions. He also helped secure additional support by increasing the number of casual staff members available to assist the Regional Cricket Managers.

He played a vital role in establishing the Pilbara Regional Cricket Board and oversaw the Kimberly and Pilbara development programs.

This came in addition to the regular and productive correspondence Steve had with all regional cricket boards.

His input into the Wheatbelt/Central Districts merger and the Regional Boundaries Review in 2014 was significant.

So too was the strong leadership Steve displayed to optimise Country High Performance programs, having also directed successful Country XI programs in recent years.

Steve has played a large role in maintaining and strengthening the health of cricket in regional WA, as well as WA Cricket’s partnership with the Country Cricket Board.

General Manager of Community Cricket Jo Davies said:

“It’s hard to think of anyone more deserving of this award.

“Steve’s passion for country cricket has never waned, and his desire to sustain the health of country cricket in WA is infectious.

“We’re incredibly lucky to have him on board for so long, and can’t wait to see what he achieves moving forward.”
