Debutants, Star Quick Named In ODC, Shield Squads

A returning star and the guarantee of a debutant headline WA’s 13-player squads for upcoming Marsh One-Day Cup and Marsh Sheffield Shield games against NSW in Sydney.

Three uncapped players – Mahli Beardman, Liam Haskett and Hamish McKenzie – feature in the One-Day Cup squad to face the Blues at Cricket Central in Sydney Olympic Park tomorrow.

Pace bowler Beardman, 18, joined WA on a rookie deal ahead of the 2023-24 domestic season, having represented Australia at underage level.

The whippy right-armer made his Toyota Second XI debut versus South Australia last month and has impressed for Melville’s WA Premier Cricket First Grade side.

Towering left-arm quick Haskett – who, like Beardman, earned his first State contract in 2023-24 – has been a regular fixture in the Shield team since debuting against Victoria in round one.

McKenzie enters the frame after a brilliant performance for Subiaco-Floreat last weekend, ripping through Bayswater-Morley with first innings figures of 8-42 from 17.5 overs. The left-arm wrist-spinner is also in the mix to make his Shield debut at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Monday.

Meantime, nationally contracted fast bowler Lance Morris returns to the red ball setup after being managed for WA’s recent win over South Australia at Adelaide Oval.

Aaron Hardie suffered a low grade right quad injury during that match and will miss the upcoming One-Day Cup and Sheffield Shield games against NSW. WA are planning for the allrounder to be available when they host South Australia at the WACA Ground on 15 November

Pace bowler Cameron Gannon was not considered for selection due to a right quad injury sustained against the Redbacks.

Undefeated this season to date, WA currently sit first on the One-Day Cup ladder and second in the Sheffield Shield standings.
